Friendship Group News
(submitted by Joan Carrell & Susan Perry)

Would you like to be part of a new Friendship Group?  Maybe you're a new member or on the waiting list or have found a new area of quilting to explore and would like to share this in a small group.  If you are interested in participating in a new group, please contact Susan Perry and let her know your interests and availability.

Please note: Visiting an “open” Friendship Group is NOT a life commitment. Go for a while, get the hang of a project; and if life gets in the way, phase yourself out.

crazy quiltersCrazy Quilters

Geo Mickelson started this wonderful group that meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month at her home. She teaches the different techniques used in making a crazy quilt.  She just taught silk ribbon embroidery.  The members are at all different levels of expertise and really enjoy making their own crazy quilt!  They are even making single blocks to adorn and embellish other projects.  This group is made up of members from both Thumb Butte Quilt Guild and Mountain Top Quilt Guild.  Membership is by invitation.

Sharlot Hall Quilters

This group meets every Thursday in The Carriage House at Sharlot Hall Museum from 10am to noon. The members are handquilting Judy Eppler's quilt.  TBQ held a raffle and Judy won the opportunity to have this quilt handquilted by this "thimble" group!  Many compliments have been made by visitors as they see the quilt while they walk through The Carriage House.  Those who meet regularly are Arlene Comon, Jean Davies and Lorraine Pickering.  Carolyn Edwards comes on the 1st and 5th Thursdays of the month.  All TBQ members are welcome!!  Come when you can!  Call Lorraine Pickering if you can come.

The Roadhouse Quilters

Center blocks for the Round Robin Challenge

Finished Round Robin Challenge

The Roadhouse Quilters have completed their year-long "Round Robin" challenge.  Started in November of 2006, boxes passed through the group participating, and were unveiled at the October 2007 meeting. Wonderful quilts were completed, and everyone was thrilled.

We are a "freestyle group" of 9, getting together in each other's homes since early 2005.Two group projects have been completed, many personal projects worked on, and some great desserts and recipes shared.

The Featherweights

This Moon Over the Mountain quilt top was a group effort as Featherweights' entry into TBQ's "Spirit of the West" June 2007 Quilt Show Challenge.  Each member made four batik blocks.  Jean Ehlers and Carol Miller set the blocks together and added borders.  A drawing was held to choose the quilt's owner.  The winner was Margaret Mecca!  The "catch" was that she had to get it quilted before the Quilt Show--which she did, and with great success!

Six of the Featherweights are now participating in a "Fractured! Challenge", where each player will create 1/6 of a picture chosen by each of the six other players.  We hope to hang our "Fractured!" quilts together in TBQ's 2009 Quilt Show!

Quilt History Bee

Do you have a yearning for knowledge of quilt history?  So do we!  And we'd love to have you join us!!

We meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at
Cloth Plus, 6479 E. Copper Hill Drive in Prescott Valley.

We show and share antique quilts and study favorite quilt history topics.  Come learn with us!
If you have questions, contact Carolyn Edwards.

Menehune Quilters (Hawaiian quilting)

Menehunes are The Islands’ version of a leprechaun. They can do in a night what the rest of us would take a year to do! So, it’s a good thing to befriend a Menehune! This group will meet in June, July, August, and September on the 3rd Thursday of the month, at the Prescott Country Club POA Building, from Noon to 3 p.m.  Margaret Mecca will again be available with all her many patterns, and will share anything and everything she knows about Hawaiian Quilts.  She recently presented a Trunk Show to the Quail Country Quilters in Cottonwood, and has sparked some interest in the quilters of the Verde Valley.  Menehune Quilters is open to anyone interested in learning or continuing
Hawaiian quilting.

This is a recent party-enhanced meeting to honor Margaret Mecca for all she has done for the group since its beginning over two years ago.

Creative Threads

The former Ladies in Waiting joined TBQ in July and a new mini-group was formed.  Creative Threads meets the third Friday of the month at the Yavapai Hills Clubhouse.  Gatherings will vary from open sew days to learning new techniques.  Everyone is interested in sharing new ideas, the latest tools, and learning a technique they haven't tried.  Of course, meetings include simple potluck lunches; who can resist a day of sewing and eating with fellow quilters? Member ship is closed.  If you are interested in visiting, please call Susan Perry.
