Sharlot Hall Quilters

The Sharlot Hall Quilters, headed by Arlene Comon, meets every Thursday morning in the Transportation Building from 10:00 am to noon.  This is a ‘hand quilting’ group, and they are able to complete a couple of quilts each year (depending on the size, of course).  Carol Stewart, winner of the opportunity quilt raffle, is currently having her 1920’s quilt top hand quilted.  This group can easily accommodate six people around the quilting frame on any given Thursday. During the Folk Arts Fair extra quilters are needed and welcomed.  Lorraine Pickering has been the task master for the group for the past 18 years and is responsible for keeping this group together and quilting!  Call Arlene or Lorraine for additional information. This is a great opportunity to learn and improve your hand quilting techniques, interact with other Guild members, and share with people from all over the country when they visit the Museum.

Openings:  Yes
Meet:  Every Thursday, (10am-Noon), Transportation Building at Sharlot Hall and during Folk Arts Fair

Scattered Threads

This friendly, happy-go-lucky mini-group loves quilting!  The ladies bring their own projects which typically involve any type of hand work (applique, embroidery, quilting, binding, etc.) and projects they want to share with one another. Scattered Threads is also a support group for the quilters with mentoring, sharing, show-n-tell, and lots of laughter.  (They don’t usually bring their sewing machines, but there is room if that is what you want to do.)   They meet at 9:00 am the first Wednesday of the month at the Prescott Country Club POA building. The room is reserved until 2:00pm, so the ladies can stay as long as their schedules permit. They bring lunches if they are planning to stay until 2:00. The facility will accommodate a large group and everyone is welcome to join in.  For additional information, contact Carolyn Edwards.

Openings:  Yes
Meet:  1st Wednesday of the month (9:00am – 2:00pm) at Property Owners Association (POA) building at Prescott Country Club (PCC). Directions:  Enter the Prescott Country Club off of Highway 69 at Prescott Country Club Blvd. (this is the intersection where Fain Road intersects with Hwy 69).  Turn left at the first stop sign onto Old Chisholm Trail.  The POA is the 5th building on the left and has ample parking.

Quilt History Bee

At the 11/20/08 gathering of the Quilt History Bee, Arlene Comon presented a talk about Mary Schafer--Quilt Maker and Quilt Historian.  Much of her discussion was based on the book, "Mary Schafer, American Quilt Maker", by Gwen Marston.  The book is described as the story of the woman who helped create the modern American quilting revival.  Mary Schafer (1910 - 2006) was inducted into The Quilters Hall of Fame in July 2007.

The book includes "Mary's Apple Cake" recipe.  Arlene made it, and served it as refreshments.  Yum!

Mary's Apple Cake

4 cups coarsely chopped apples.  (Arlene used Granny Smith apples.)
2 cups sugar, poured over the apples.  Let stand 15 to 20 minutes.

Add 2 cups flour, 2 tsp baking soda, dash of salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, and stir.
Add 2 large eggs, 3/4 vegetable oil, and 1/2 to 1 cup walnuts.

Pour into greased, floured 9 x 13 pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until done.  (Arlene baked it for 45 minutes.)

crazy quiltersCrazy Quilters

Geo Mickelson started this wonderful group that meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month at her home. She teaches the different techniques used in making a crazy quilt.  She just taught silk ribbon embroidery.  The members are at all different levels of expertise and really enjoy making their own crazy quilt!  They are even making single blocks to adorn and embellish other projects.  This group is made up of members from both Thumb Butte Quilt Guild and Mountain Top Quilt Guild.  Membership is by invitation.

The Roadhouse Quilters

Center blocks for the Round Robin Challenge

Finished Round Robin Challenge

The Roadhouse Quilters have completed their year-long "Round Robin" challenge.  Started in November of 2006, boxes passed through the group participating, and were unveiled at the October 2007 meeting. Wonderful quilts were completed, and everyone was thrilled.

We are a "freestyle group" of 9, getting together in each other's homes since early 2005.Two group projects have been completed, many personal projects worked on, and some great desserts and recipes shared.

The Featherweights

Featherweights are making Birthday Blocks for everyone in our mini-group!  We started last July (AFTER the Quilt Show!), and will finish up in October 2011!  (We decided to take a break over the Christmas holidays during both 2009 and 2010!)  Birthday Girl distributes information about the Birthday Blocks she wants for her Birthday--size, theme, color, fabric, pattern, etc.  Completed Birthday Blocks are due back to Birthday Girl in two months.  Here's what we have so far...  Let us know if you have questions!

Creative Threads

The former Ladies in Waiting joined TBQ in July and a new mini-group was formed.  Creative Threads meets the third Friday of the month at the Yavapai Hills Clubhouse.  Gatherings will vary from open sew days to learning new techniques.  Everyone is interested in sharing new ideas, the latest tools, and learning a technique they haven't tried.  Of course, meetings include simple potluck lunches; who can resist a day of sewing and eating with fellow quilters? Member ship is closed.  If you are interested in visiting, please call Susan Perry.
